Woodland Star Charter School

Our school is landscaped with many native plants, and we have three large raised beds that the third grade works on with our garden teacher, Mollyanne. We also have five raised beds in another area that worked on by the fifth grade students. We recently received a grant from Lowe's and will be making an outdoor classroom and areas for all of the grades to garden!

We have a compost pile and a composter (thank you outdoora.com!), and have plans for worm composting bins. We plan to build a cob oven and have lots of cooking in the garden (inviting local artisans to show the students exciting ways to eat well!) and hold lots of celebrations with our community.

We hope to grow enough food to supplement our aftercare program and to help with a future lunch program. The gardens are classrooms now for the first, third and fith grades, and we hope to include the other grades as well and make the garden an important facet of every student's education.
