This is half of an urban front yard reclaimed for a vegetable garden after trees were removed. Since the snails discovered it, I plant with the fond hope that they will let at least some of the tender seedlings live. Sometimes they do. This year I planted a winter cover crop of fava beans and am letting some of them mature for eating.
I'm an indifferent gardener but I very much enjoy eating the fruit of my hands. My mantra is, "I hope it grows." I've done well with jerusalem artichokes, garlic, chard, kale, potatoes, arugula, parsley, summer squash and cherry tomatoes, not so well with beans, lettuce, bok choy, winter squash, peas, strawberries. This year I had chard and kale all winter.
