Robert L. Stevens Elementary School

The garden at R.L. Stevens is utilized both by teachers and after school programs.  It is maintained in large part by the CalSERVES AmeriCorps after school and tutoring program designed to bring educational and extracurricular enhancement to students struggling in school. CalSERVES focuses in large part on nutrition and healthy choices and uses the garden to teach students about being healthy and the natural processes involved in plant growth.

Sobre el Jardín
Horas hábiles:
Not open to visitors unless they are processed volunteers
Oportunidades de voluntariado:
We have two specific volunteer opportunities, but welcome all volunteers who love working in the garden for any amount of time. 1.) We are looking for members of the community who love gardening to maintain upkeep of the garden in the summer months. 2.) There is also an opportunity for a volunteer leader to run the garden in the 2010-2011 school year. It is OK if you are unable to commit to the whole year. The garden coordinator would make sure the garden is kept up and interact with CalSERVES mentors and teachers about use of space. He/she would have access to the garden any time during school hours. He/she would have significant support from the volunteer coordinator, and the position would look great as a leadership and/or service role on any resume. Interest in working with kids is encouraged but definitely not necessary.
