Matanzas Elementary School

An wonderful garden where students are growing their own plants, making compost, mixing potting soil, building needed structures like a greenhouse, and generally making the world a healthier more beautiful place.

We are growing food and flowers as well as creating a balanced ecosystem that supports healthy plants.  We learn how the balance in nature supports all life while working in our garden.

Our composting and cover cropping system is enriching the soil for sustained productive gardening.

Berries, a grape, and a fruit tree have been added to the garden area.

We start our own plants in the greenhouse and in the garden coordinator's greenhouse.  We are learning to transplant delicate seedlings successfully.

Students are encouraged to try this at home.  Families are welcome to join with us on gardening days.
