I Love Plants
The bulk of the garden is filled with native plants and other drought tolerant species, but I have devoted a portion of the garden to fruits and vegetables. In the backyard, one corner has a dwarf nectarine and peach, 2 apple trees, a fig tree and raspberries.
Along side the "orchard'' is a strip next to the fence devoted to vegetables, where I train as many as possible to grow up the wire on the fence ( climbing squash plants are a boon to a small garden). Since this part of the house faces south and west, we're training hops to grow up pig-wire to shade the wall and of course provide my husband with beer making supplies.
In the front, I converted the strip next to the driveway into a vegetable patch that currently has potatoes, shallots and the newly planted peppers, eggplant, cucumbers and squash (again climbing up trellises).
