Back 40

We removed lawns from both our front and back yards through the Petaluma Mulch Madness program. This provided us with free cardboard, compost and mulch. Next we salvaged lumber and gopher wire for containers from the dump, also free.  We purchased all our seeds from the Seed Bank and started our plants in a greenhouse we converted from our kids swing set. We built a compost bin to create our own.

We are trying to grow everything biodynamically. Also considering Steiner's methods, but not there yet.

We are growing 5 varieties of tomatoes, basil, arugula, lettuce, two types of beans, carrots, beets, chard, potatoes, leeks, chives, sorrel, mint, cabernet and chardonnay grapes (no fruit yet ,just leaves for dolmas).

So far we have half of the backyard growing organic vegies in containers that we eat year round. Our goal is fill up the back and then begin work on the front yard.
