460 Lucas Project

The 460 Lucas Project at 460 Lucas Circle, Santa Rosa CA 95401 used the Sonoma County Energy Independence Program to install water and energy efficiency and solar energy technology for the purpose of sustainability.  The front yard garden will be watered in large part by a clothes washing machine greywater recovery system installed by CACTUS students last week in a class led by Laura Allen of the Greywater Guerillas.  The home is owned by Frank Di Massa who will be hosting an garden event in the near future (today is March 25, 2010).

Self sufficiency and neighborhood cooperation are goals, so far for example, the solar electric system has resulted in utility electric bills of minus 22 and minus 59 dollars in its first two months of operation hooked into the grid.

Five fruit trees have been installed with help from the Eco-Workforce (Evelina Molina) and five of her disadvantaged local youth, five great kids that were a pleasure to work with.

The lot is 6,700 square feet and there are several mature fruit trees on the property a wonderful productive  Myers Lemon, an apple, an orange and a tangerine.  I really look forward to planting with you and learning from your experience.  I will be transplanting some of the veggies from my house in Windsor that seem to be perenial including swiss chard, colliflower and brussel spouts.  Peace.
