When we have abundance, as we do in the fall, it's time to put your food away. It used to be that one of the only ways to do this was to "put food up" as in canning. But modern conveniences such as the freezer and dehydrator have come into play.
Jill Nussinow, aka The Veggie Queen, will be leading this class on proper techniques for canning, freezing and dehydrating what's freshest in the season. She'll also discuss how to pickle foods.
This is a hands-on class and everyone will leave with a jar or two of what's been processed. Please bring any "extra" produce and we can put it up in class.
If you have extra canning jars and lids, bring them to use or share.
Come prepared to can: please bring an apron, sharp knife and wear close toed shoes. Get ready for some hot kitchen fun.
Cost is $46 for Santa Rosa residents and $56 for non-residents. Pre-registration is required.
