A Lot for Little Garden

Our garden is on a small urban lot close to old town Petaluma. With possibly the smallest lot in town per capita with limited solar access, we have challenged ourselves to grow bountiful edibles year round.  The front garden has been recently redone to incorporate a neighborly patio in front with espaliered pear and apple trees and our first winter garden in the two new raised planters. The back and side gardens grow culinary herbs, strawberries, apple, pear, lemon and soon two satsuma orange trees. We recently remodeled a little playhouse into a greenhouse awaiting seed starts. Since February, we have been enjoying chard, broccoli, arugula and in March harvesting snap peas, beets, cabbage, romaine, and onion. We planted 3 tomato starts in March - the earliest to date.
